Friendship Village Residents Enjoy their Gardens

Friendship Village in Schaumburg Celebrates Its Flourishing Gardens

There’s a saying: ‘Gardening adds years to your life, and life to your years.’(unknown origin)

That’s a saying that is heartily embraced at Friendship Village in Schaumburg. The senior living community just completed a full week of celebrating its abundant and flourishing gardens.

Located on a 60-acre campus in Schaumburg, Friendship Village has nine gardens in shared spaces and 24 garden beds belonging to residents. Additionally, many residents have plants on their patios, decks, balconies, and terraces.

The shared gardens boast amenities, including koi ponds, a labyrinth, waterfalls, pergolas, shuffleboard courts, umbrella tables and more.

The week-long celebration of Friendship Village’s green spaces included a tour and discussion about the labyrinth in Friendship Village’s Secret Garden, bouquet-making, a State Fair-themed party, meditation, nature presentations, flowerpot decorating, cooking demonstrations, and more.

“Our gardens are beautiful and provide wonderful spaces for the residents to enjoy,” said Carla Smith, director of lifestyles. “They’re each a little different and afford countless opportunities for gardening, meditating, visiting, relaxing, dining, playing, and more. Our celebratory week reaffirmed just how wonderful these spaces are.”
