It was a partnership made in Candyland-like heaven. During National Nutrition Month, the fitness, dieticians, and dining teams at Friendship Village senior living community in Schaumburg launched a special initiative. Pairing good nutrition with healthy activity, the program was called Navigate Nutrition.
Julie Hubbard, SeniorFit Program Exercise Physiologist at Friendship Village, explained that the fitness center designed and presented a gameboard that is reminiscent of Candyland. Over the month of March, participating residents completed small incentives and challenges, each of which took them one step closer to the ‘finish line.’ Progress could also be made by attending nutrition-related events such as dietician presentations and even by ordering a heart-healthy meal. Approximately 40 residents participated. “There was really no single winner. Everyone who participates and takes the initiative to live a healthier lifestyle is a winner,” said Julie.
“There are no shortcuts to being healthy, so we've been dedicated to making this fun,” said Julie.
