It was a celebration of a passion that can blossom for a lifetime. Friendship Village of Schaumburg held its Village Garden Event, honoring the many gardens throughout the senior living community’s beautiful campus. The unique, day-long occasion included guided tours, refreshments, arts and crafts, meditation, and live musical entertainment.
“We decided that it would be fun to show off the gardens throughout the entire community,” said Carla Smith, assistant director of lifestyles. “We had themes in each of the seven gardens including a tea party, a tasting of fresh garden salsa, bouquet-making instruction, educational and photo ops, a strolling violinist, and meditation with our chaplain.” Attendees who visited every garden were entered into a drawing awarding beautiful bouquets as the prize.
Residents have also had the opportunity to enjoy a colorful poster display of Friendship Village’s 24 resident gardeners showcasing their own individual gardens.
“It was a wonderful celebration. We are blessed with having many different areas throughout our campus for people of any ability to enjoy and participate in nature,” said Smith.
