Late last month, residents of Friendship Village in Schaumburg went out into the community to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children’s new facility at 740 Wiley Farm Court in Schaumburg.

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping starving children in more than 45 countries around the world.

Residents of Friendship Village senior living community, along with other volunteers, packed more than 32,616 MannaPack Rice meals for children in Guatemala. These highly nutritious meal packs, which cost less than 25 cents each, contain a unique mixture of dehydrated vegetables, vitamins and minerals, rice, and soy. Volunteers work in teams to measure food ingredients into bags, weigh and heat seal bags, and pack completed meals into boxes. The meals packed with the help of the Friendship Village residents will feed 89 children for a year.

This was the fourth time that Friendship Village residents volunteered at Feed My Starving Children, and the first time at their new site in Schaumburg. “Volunteer work and ‘giving back’ to the community is so important and such an integral part of the lives of so many of our residents,” said Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of lifelong learning and volunteers for Friendship Village.
