It was an adventurous return to the American frontier. Residents of Friendship Village retirement community partied in a monthlong celebration of the Wild West. Planned by the resident-run activities committee, the festivities included cowboy-themed programming, field trips, western-inspired crafts, and displays. Entertainment included screenings of western movies, a live musical performance by Rick Pickren singing Songs of the Singing Cowboys, and a presentation by historian John Boda talking about the Wild West.
The celebration culminated with the final Wild West Event which included dancing, panning for gold, games, displays of western-themed memorabilia, and more.
“Our residents really took the idea of western-themed festivities and ran with it, preparing so many fun programs and activities,” said Donna Brown, lifestyles activities manager. “It was a successful event that was enjoyed by all!”
