On Monday, August 21st, residents from Friendship Village Schaumburg will celebrate a solar eclipse tea party. Donning special eclipse glasses, the residents will witness the phenomenon of the moon passing between the sun and earth, blocking the sun from viewers in the Chicago area.
“We’re excited to have this momentous event that our residents will enjoy witnessing,” said Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of lifelong learning for Friendship Village. A professor from Harper College came and discussed the eclipse with the residents of the senior living community several weeks ago. “The last time the contiguous U.S. saw a total eclipse was in 1979, and we’ll have to wait until 2024 to see the next one,” said Magdaleno.
