As the result of some remodeling and renovations, The Willows of Friendship Village is now able to accommodate an increased number of residents in their assisted living neighborhood. Late last month, six vacant independent living apartments were updated for residents who may need more assistance. An open house was held and many residents from Croswell Trace, Bridgewater Place and Bridgegate were introduced to the new apartments. The need for additional assisted living space was identified during the process of developing Friendship Senior Options’ strategic plan, a collaborative project between associates, residents and board members.
Residents in Friendship Village’s independent living apartments were increasingly needing additional assistance. “Furthermore, we found that we had residents looking at Friendship Village for the first time that were requiring assisted living” said Judy Petersen, Assisted Living Director. When the vacant adjoining independent living apartments were identified, it was decided that they’d be converted to help fill the need and accommodate those requiring assisted living.
“We upgraded the additional 6 apartments to the level of finish that Bridgewater apartments would typically have. We gave them all a facelift,” said Judy. In addition to the apartments being renovated, a new dining room was added to accommodate the residents and a TV lounge added in order to allow for additional lifestyle programming. “Our lifestyles programming is a big part of our residents’ lives and this additional room gives us options on all three floors of the Birch Pavilion,” Judy said. “We have an extremely active lifestyles department with an emphasis on independence.”
Explaining the services provided in assisted living, Judy stated, “First and foremost, we provide 24 hour oversight, assistance with activities of daily living, medication management through our home care department, and escorts around the community.
As the result of the recent renovations, Willows now consists 106 private assisted living apartments. “This project helps to ensure that we’re able to meet increasing needs of residents in our independent living area as well as people from the outside community,” Judy said.« Back
